Killings: Benue LG Imposes Curfew Amid Rising Insecurity
In response to escalating violence, the Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Area in Benue State, Victor Ormin, has announced a dusk-to-dawn curfew to curb rising insecurity. The restriction, which begins at 6:30 p.m. daily, applies to all movement into and out of the local government area.
The decision follows a series of deadly attacks in neighbouring communities, including Ayilamo and Jato-Acka, where at least nine people lost their lives in coordinated assaults by suspected armed groups. The violence has left many residents in fear, prompting authorities to take swift action.
Ormin emphasized that the curfew is a temporary measure, subject to review based on improvements in the security situation. He urged residents to comply with the directive, assuring them that efforts are underway to restore peace and stability.
The situation in Benue State remains tense, with security forces working to contain the violence and prevent further loss of life. As the curfew takes effect, residents hope for a swift resolution to the ongoing crisis.
