For too long, the people of Benue have endured empty promises, misplaced priorities, and a government that seems blind to the suffering of its citizens. Governor Hyacinth Alia, in the eyes of his critics, has done nothing but waste resources and parade himself as a reformer while the state continues to languish. They say his administration is riddled with failures, his policies are hollow, and his leadership is the worst Benue has ever seen.

But when we look beyond the rhetoric of opposition, a very different picture emerges. Governor Alia’s tenure has been marked by tangible progress, beginning with the construction of major roads across Benue State. Communities that were once cut off due to poor infrastructure now enjoy smooth connectivity, boosting trade and easing transportation.

One of his most notable projects is the flyover at Gboko Gyado Roundabout, a landmark development designed to ease traffic congestion and modernize Gboko. This project not only improves safety and mobility but also positions Gboko as a hub of economic activity and pride for the Tiv nation.

His administration has also prioritized workers’ welfare, ensuring timely payment of salaries and pensions. This has restored confidence among civil servants and retirees, while youth empowerment programs have created opportunities for employment and skill acquisition.

Healthcare and education have seen renewed attention. Hospitals and clinics are being revitalized, improving access to medical services for citizens. Schools are receiving resources and infrastructure upgrades, giving children a better environment to learn and thrive.

Security challenges, long a burden on Benue, have been met with deliberate action. Governor Alia has worked to strengthen safety in communities, tackling banditry and violence. His government has also supported internally displaced persons (IDPs), ensuring humanitarian aid reaches those most in need.

Beyond these, his administration has invested in women and youth empowerment, revived industries, and improved power supply to stimulate economic growth. These efforts reflect a holistic approach to governance that touches nearly every aspect of life in Benue State.

So, is Governor Alia truly the “worst”? Only if we mean he has set the bar so high that future governors will struggle to match his achievements. His tenure has been defined not by failure, but by progress, making him one of the most impactful leaders Benue State has ever had.
