Igede Agba Festival & Fiesta: A Cultural Celebration of Identity and Unity

Igede Agba is an annual cultural festival celebrated by the Igede-speaking people of Benue State, Nigeria. Formerly known as Igede Day, the event is akin to Nigeria’s Independence Day in spirit—serving as a proud commemoration of the tribe’s heritage, unity, and progress. It is traditionally held on the first Ihigile market day of September, marking a sacred moment in the Igede calendar.

One of the most vibrant expressions of this celebration is the Igede Agba Fiesta, a cultural showcase pioneered by the acclaimed "Igede First Son," Mr. Yukay. Since his 2009 musical tribute to the festival, Mr. Yukay has consistently hosted the Fiesta as an annual event, transforming it into a signature brand that celebrates Igede culture and shares it with the world.

Each year, Mr. Yukay brings together a diverse lineup of performers—including artists from outside the Igede community—to honor the festival and spotlight the richness of Igede traditions. The 2025 edition introduces two special highlights:

-  Recognition Awards for distinguished Igede sons based in the Southwest region of Nigeria.

-  Ambassador Selection of a male and female representative to serve as the “Face of Igede” in the Southwest.

This initiative is in collaboration with Agba TV, the first online television platform dedicated to the Igede people (currently undergoing licensing). Together, they aim to amplify Igede voices and establish cultural ambassadors who will represent the tribe with pride and purpose.
