For generations, the Tiv people have been known for their rich culture, communal spirit, and resilience. But today, Tivland stands at a crossroads—fractured by internal divisions and vulnerable to external threats. The question we must ask ourselves is simple yet profound: Can Tivland be united again?

The Tiv nation is no longer one cohesive entity. Instead, we see growing divides among our major zones—Minda, Jemgbagh, Jerchira, and others. These divisions have weakened our collective strength, making it easier for outsiders to exploit our disunity. The tragic and recurring herdsmen attacks on our communities are a painful reminder of what happens when we fail to stand together.

At the heart of Tivland sits the Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty Prof. James Ayatse, the symbol of our unity and cultural heritage. As chairman of the Tiv Traditional Council, he has taken bold steps to address insecurity—most notably issuing a 10-day ultimatum to armed herdsmen to vacate Tiv territories. But even the strongest voice needs a chorus. The Tor Tiv cannot restore unity alone; it requires the will of the people.

Why Unity Matters:
Security: A united Tivland can better defend itself against external aggression.

Development: Collaboration across zones can unlock economic growth and infrastructure.

Cultural Revival: Shared festivals, language, and traditions can rekindle our communal spirit.

Political Strength: Unity gives us a stronger voice in national affairs.

To rebuild Tivland, we must:

Reinvigorate Traditional Systems like the Kwav (age-grade groups), which once fostered grassroots development and social cohesion.

Encourage Inter-Zonal Dialogue through cultural exchanges, youth forums, and joint community projects.

Hold Leaders Accountable—both traditional and political—for promoting unity and transparency.

Empower Youth and Women as agents of peace and reconciliation.

Tivland’s future depends on us. We must stop seeing ourselves as separate zones and start seeing ourselves as one people with a shared destiny. Let this forum be a space for honest conversation, healing, and hope.

Unity is not a luxury—it is our lifeline.
