The Tor Tiv, His Imperial Majesty Professor James Ayatse, recently announced a cap of N100,000 on traditional marriage expenses in Tivland. While many hailed it as a move to make marriage more accessible, others are asking deeper questions:

Can the Tor Tiv actually enforce this limit, or is it simply a cultural recommendation?

Should traditional rulers have the authority to regulate bride price, or should families decide what’s fair?

What happens when families demand more than ₦100K is there any consequence?

Is this move a return to authentic Tiv customs, or a modern intervention in age-old traditions?

This topic touches on tradition, law, economics, and the evolving role of cultural leadership. Let’s hear your thoughts does this empower young couples or stir up more controversy?

SIMON AHULE: More controversies my dear sis. As a father you cannot force me to collect 100k as a price for my daughter that I spent so much training in school. 1 year ago

TORNA FIDELIS: This can help a lot of youth get married more often but the question still remains, how many parents will accept only 100k for child whom he or she has spent so much for? I can tell you that Tor Tiv should rethink and allow it the way it was. Until now people marry without even paying a dime. I think there are other things that he should channel his energy to, like finding means to eliminate killer herdsmen and high rate of cultism in our tertiary institutions. 1 year ago

JESSICA TERNA: We need to understand the angle where he was talking about. It seems we are copying so much from other cultures, so he decides to give this figure as something that one should be looking at as a cap for how far you can go. It is something we need to look at critically and make it become a law where every family will get it all from the begin. Thats my take though. 1 year ago
